Emerging Designers Take NYFW with Oxford Fashion Studio

Oxford Fashion Studio brought eleven emerging designers from across the globe to Manhattan to present their runway collections at Studio 450 as a part of New York Fashion Week.  

Diverging from the norm, prosecco was flowing and guests mixed and mingled in a relaxed atmosphere bringing a touch of elegance that only a UK-based company could.  

Split into one marquee and two group runway shows, Oxford Fashion Studio New York Fashion Week welcomed hundreds of industry members into the light-filled raw space penthouse with the New York skyline as a gorgeous backdrop.

Nandi Madida: Nandi Madida is a South African media personality, fashion designer, musician, and actress who has been captivating audiences since the age of eight. As one of Africa’s most loved celebrities and social influencers, Nandi occupies a revered space in the homes and hearts of many Africans. She is a respected fashion and style icon whose name sits at the top of many best dressed lists in the continent and abroad. Nandi has used her love of fashion to develop her brand, Colour. In its second year, the line has expanded and become loved by several of Nandi’s fans as well as customers worldwide.

Jef Albea : Jef Albea has honed his skills as a designer and stylist by dipping his fingers into a wide variety of projects, from photoshoots to fashion show events. Having been a theater actor, he began designing costumes for stage plays until he began venturing into elite shows in the metro and even outside the country. Now that he has explored his inspirations, he actively began to reshape this generation’s perspective on clothing by creating designs which he believes the anchor of his service. He started designing for famous celebrities in the Philippines such as Lea Salgona, Zsazsa Padilla, Vina Morales, Alma Concepcion, Maine Mendoza, Maja Salvador, and a lot more. He has been making his brides happy and special for the past years, making more than fifty fabulous wedding gowns per year. Exclusivity, style and excellence are his values in bringing forth masterpieces in clothing to provide the woman of today the personalized fashion so she can be proud to say she is wearing a “Jef Albea” collection.

Annie’s Creations: Australia is a multicultural country. We based in Melbourne which is a great place to explore with variety of overseas art and designs via communication, internet sourcing & exhibitions. Especially historical Chinese art, Australia’s and African aboriginal and European art from ancient time to present. As an artist and designer I amazed by the great artists and felt their passion, from the colors, lines and shapes on their artworks, from time to time, it is honor that I have plenty of opportunities to meet the art elements and look into them, then spark them into my own art

Coco & Ilia: Cortney Sims and Ilia Siegwald met during their freshman year at Stephens College in 2012 during a Life Drawing class. Cortney claims that Ilia refused to give her extra paper and Ilia complimented her on her phone case. It was a match made in heaven. Fast forward three years, they realized during their senior capstone classes that they had similar design styles and a dissatisfaction with the fashion industry and its rules and exclusivity. This realization gave them the idea for Coco and Ilia: a brand designed to give confidence and empowerment to all women.

Nannerwave: Hye Seon Jeon is a Menswear Fashion Designer based in New York. Her initial motivation to get an education in art was her interest in drawing and painting, and she graduated Parsons The New School BFA program for majoring Fashion Design in 2017. A common theme across her whole collections are focused on rediscovery and message. Hye Seon believes in the functionality of clothing, although her work often tweaks its meaning through materials and shapes. Indeed, she also has a faith in her mission for spreading ‘positive influence,’ which explains the brand name ‘Nannerwave.’ Nannerwave is a combined word of the designer’s nickname ‘Nanner/Nance’ and the term ‘wave’ stands for a cultural influence or a trend. Because of her religious conviction and life philosophy, she has been trying to provide a message of ‘hope’ through her clothing and visual works.

Joo Won Yu was born in Seoul, South Korea and moved to New York City in 2013. She graduated from Parsons School of Design in 2017, and became a growing menswear designer. She pursuits clean, simple and wearable silhouettes with hand craft details. In addition, she is in love with developing prints and embroidery or beading layouts. As a menswear designer, she tries to collaborate couture details with clean and modern silhouette. Most of her collection is inspired by herself. She tries to develop concept from herself and make it broad to fit everyone, so everyone can share and enjoy Joo Won’s design aesthetic.

Rachel Pollak: From Overland Park, Kansas, Rachel is the womenswear designer for Rachel Pollak Designs, who loves designing classic and modern fashion. The designs appeal to a woman who is strong, sophisticated, and feminine, who loves mixing colors, patterns and textures to create a wearable statement. Rachel attended JCCC where she earned an Apparel Designs and Technology AAS. During this time she developed collections for the annual JCCC student fashion show competitions in both 2016 and 2017, where she placed first place and third place respectively. Last season, she presented her vegetable inspired Spring/Summer 2018 collection at KC Fashion Week. During NYFW 2018, she will be showing her Autumn/Winter 2018 Couture Collection with Oxford Fashion Studios in NYC. It is inspired by one of her winning designs from the “Make It Yours Challenge” with KC Fashion Week, KC Fashion Council, and Oak Park Mall. At KC Fashion Week this spring she will be showing her Autumn/Winter 2018 Ready-to-Wear collection.
