The Lebanese designer traded body-conscious evening for fringe, crochet-effect embroidery and trapeze volume — a day-wearable proposition arriving months before his Paris flagship opens

Zuhair Murad Spring 2027 Ready-to-Wear Collection at Paris Fashion Week

PARIS — Zuhair Murad let the waist go. The Lebanese designer showed his spring 2027 ready-to-wear collection in Paris on Oct. 5, building it around Mediterranean beach dressing: fringe, draping, asymmetrical skirts and high-necked trapeze shapes in place of the cinched, body-conscious eveningwear that made the house a red carpet fixture.

The timing matters more than the fringe. Murad is finishing a Paris flagship now slated to open in the first quarter of 2027, a store that will carry couture, ready-to-wear and the house’s growing accessories category under one roof. The clothes he loosened this week are the ones that have to fill its floors.

The Trapeze Does the Commercial Work

The structural move is a single one, applied across the collection: volume where there used to be tension. Draped, asymmetrical skirts and high-necked trapeze dresses give the body room, letting the same hanger work for lunch and late dinner. Murad also cut casual jumpsuits and cocktail suits in black satin with frog-button blazers – the clearest day proposition the house has put on a runway in several seasons.

That is a retailer’s ask, not a mood board. Murad said in June, around his resort 2027 collection, that clients increasingly want understated, versatile pieces rather than occasion-only dressing, and the resort lineup answered with jersey, chiffon and tailored separates. Spring 2027 pushes the same brief further into daywear while keeping the finishing that justifies the price.

Crochet-Effect Embroidery Buys Ease Expensively

The season’s one genuinely new technique is reworking the house’s embroidery so it reads as crochet, finished with beads and tassels. Floral motifs carried over from the July couture collection appeared as brooches and lapel pieces, and corsetry was rebuilt in layers rather than boning – sheer fabric superimposed over structure to soften the snatched waist Murad has leaned on since pre-fall.

It is a clever translation and an expensive one. Hand-worked embroidery engineered to look like holiday knitwear is slow craft spent on the appearance of ease, and customers pay couture labor rates for a bohemian effect. Several current-season Zuhair Murad ready-to-wear pieces were listed on Moda Operandi at $4,755 to $6,515 as of Oct. 7, most of them on preorder. At that level, a fringed beach dress competes with resort brands that have owned the category for 20 years and price it at a fraction.

The Mediterranean Brief Has Run Two Seasons

The second weakness is sequencing. Resort 2027, shown in June, took waves and the sea as its reference. Spring 2027 takes Mediterranean beaches. Back-to-back collections drawn from the same water blur the distinction between a resort delivery and a spring one – a real merchandising problem for a house asking wholesale buyers to open two budgets, and a reason the newness here reads as continuation rather than a turn.

What does survive the repetition is the embroidery program. The crochet treatment is specific to this collection, identifiable at 10 feet and difficult to copy at mass price points. It is the piece of the season a buyer can point to.

A Flagship Raises the Stakes on Day

Murad has run the house between Beirut and Paris through a difficult stretch for the region – a “tough period,” he told WWD in July, adding that he intends to keep production and his team in Lebanon. The flagship is the counterweight: a single Paris address that converts a wholesale and couture business into a controlled retail one.

The market he is opening into is uneven. Bain & Company and Altagamma, in their June 2026 monitor update, put personal luxury goods on track to grow 2 percent to 4 percent in 2026, to between 365 billion euros and 373 billion euros, with the Americas driving the market while Europe and the Middle East lag. For a house whose demand has historically concentrated in the Gulf and on the American red carpet, that split argues for exactly what spring 2027 does: more pieces a customer buys without an invitation in hand.

New York is where the test runs first. Murad’s wholesale network includes Saks Fifth Avenue, Bergdorf Goodman and Neiman Marcus, and his ready-to-wear reaches the U.S. customer largely through preorder on Moda Operandi – a channel that rewards a recognizable silhouette and punishes a vague one. The crochet embroidery is recognizable. The jumpsuits will have to prove they are.

The waist came loose this season. Whether the business follows depends on whether a client who buys Zuhair Murad for the gown will buy him for the daytime.
