Interview With Diana LoMonaco CEO and Founder of Classic Six
Can you share with us your background and the background behind Classic Six?
I started my career designing advertising for Macy’s and later left to start my own graphic design business. About 4 years in, I was missing the fashion world and decided to start a fashion blog as a little side hustle. It was during this time that fashion began to feel completely excessive to me. I was shopping fast fashion daily to share my inspiration and I was accumulating entirely too much stuff. I started to think that I am surely not the only woman that must feel this excess in fashion, ie; that pressure to buy and the overwhelming feeling that there is just too much to choose from, in stores and even in our own closets. This was the moment the idea for Classic Six was born.
What is the brand’s vision behind the Classic Six Brand?
My vision is to design that “perfect” wardrobe for women, while reducing the overwhelm they may feel when it comes to fashion— to transform the common case of “closet full of clothes, nothing to wear” into a “highly edited closet full of purpose.” I want to create designs that are really thoughtful and purposeful. Will they stand the test of time? Are they comfortable? Are they versatile? Can you style them to create endless looks? Are they easy to wear? And most importantly…are they ridiculously chic?
What do you think makes the Classic Six Brand stand out? Can you share a story?
We are building a brand around the mentality of ‘less is more’ and ‘quality over quantity,’ so we will not have collection drops of 40-60 pieces. I think that definitely sets us apart in a lot of ways. Each small collection is carefully curated and designed with the intention of building a wardrobe for the consumer that will actually be worn, not just beautiful pieces that will sit in their closet for special occasions, or worn if at all. I am always asking the question, how much can the consumer get out of one piece? Will it be a piece they feel so amazing in that they reach for it weekly, or even daily? Can they style it in different ways, but manage to easily keep it feeling fresh and new?
We have created nearly 100 different looks with these 6 pieces, using just a few pairs of jeans, t-shirts, and accessories. Showing our girl exactly how they can style each piece has been paramount in helping them envision themselves in something they may not necessarily have thought could work.
I think when having less, you are forced to get more creative with your styling, and when all is said and done, it’s our own personal style that sets each of us apart, right?
Is the brand working on any exciting new projects now?
Yes! We are in development now for six new pieces that can ultimately be combined with the original six pieces to create even more looks! I am so excited about them as they are a bit more innovative than the original six, but still check all the boxes when it comes to the timelessness and versatility of the design. A few of them are nothing like you will have ever seen on the market.
Where do you see Classic Six going in the future?
I want to be the brand that started a movement towards a more conscious and thoughtful consumer and possibly even convert those once fast fashion shoppers like myself to become someone that thinks about their purchases and answers the fundamental questions of what, why and how before buying. What makes it special? Why do I need it? How will I wear it? When I think about fashion sustainability, this is fundamental. Buying less and buying with the intention of holding onto for years is the only true sustainable option.
