Fashion 4 Development Launches New Initiatives Aimed To Support Arts, Culture, and Sustainability

Fashion 4 Development (F4D), a private sector global platform developed in support of the United Nations Millennium Development Goals in 2011, is proud to announce the launch of several new initiatives aimed to address solutions for a healthier planet, including the preservation of culture, the empowerment of women and children, and environmental sustainability.

These initiatives come following a week of social impact events including the 2nd Annual Sustainable Goals Banquet, the 10th Annual First Ladies Luncheon, and a film screening in partnership with Human Kind – held during the 77th Session of the United Nations General Assembly in New York City.

“Never has there been a stronger need to implement environmental, social, and governance solutions on a global scale to ignite positive change both for ourselves and for future generations to come,” said Evie Evangelou, president and founder of Fashion 4 Development and founder of the campaign Sustainable Living is the New Fashion. “It is my hope that by uniting humanity through creative synergy and the strong spirit of the arts we can chart a path forward to collective healing and resilience.”

The initiatives include:

  • Musicians in the Key of Free is a global initiative for artists of all nations to unite in support of refugees around the world. Created by entertainment attorney Michael Shapiro, award-winning songwriter Diane Warren, musician Mick Fleetwood, and championed by F4D’s Evie Evangelou was announced at F4D’s 2nd Annual Sustainable Goals Banquet with the live performance of iconic legend Dione Warwick. This fall/winter 2022 and throughout 2023 top international artists will be invited to record Diane Warren’s new song “Free” in their native language, resulting in a compilation album from different countries that aims to spark dialogue about our humanitarian refugee crisis.

Submissions will be requested through Ministries of Culture. Merchandising, digital assets of art and so forth during this campaign will be capitalized on to raise funds for the displaced populations.

  • As F4D’s newly appointed Goodwill Ambassador for ‘Preserving Culture’, Lola Tillyaeva, founder of the Human Kind Institute, will act as a cultural liaison, working to preserve the beauty of cultures around the world through food, fashion and the arts, utilizing mediums such as film, art exhibitions and fashion shows to further Fashion 4 Development’s mission.
These submissions will be compiled into a coffee table book, showcased as art installations and will begin a world tour at La Maison de l’Ouzbékistan Gallery in Paris. A forthcoming documentary series – capturing and preserving each country’s unique culture and society at this moment in time for future generations is in the works.
  • Joining an elite list of other notable F4D honorees is Áslaug Magnúsdóttir, founder and CEO of Katla, who has been named F4D’s Goodwill Ambassador. In this role, Aslaug will continue to expand on her work for Katla by developing a new business model for the fashion industry.
Katla and F4D will join forces to participate in a significant and comprehensive research project in collaboration with the International Trade Centre in Geneva. F4D’s World Collective will play a key role in the project. The initiative will launch in early 2023. The aim of the partnership is to implement a model for buyers and suppliers in the fashion industry that is both more profitable and sustainable by reducing overproduction while furthering the economic inclusion and advancement of women in the industry.
  • Additionally, BrieLee, co-founder of Shiffon Co., a single-product strategy jewelry brand that donates proceeds to support six female-founded companies around the globe, and developer of a female mentorship board and platform to connect and share resources with other female entrepreneurs, was recently announced as F4D’s Youth Goodwill Ambassador. For her SDG Youth Goodwill Project, she will mentor college entrepreneurs to build sustainable companies from the ground up – fostering a generation of up-and-coming leaders who are educated about how sustainable choices have a ripple effect on other companies, consumers, and the future.
  • F4D and the Humankind Institute also announced a partnership to foster exhibitions, installations, film and speaker series, state-of-the-art technologies, and educational programs that improve inter-conscious communication and promote holistic learning. The calendar of programs will be announced in the first quarter of 2023.
