Nicky Zimmermann built a collection out of 19th-century butterfly studies, then spent its real argument on denim, trousers and flat shoes, in her first Paris season as a Fédération member

PARIS — Nicky Zimmermann showed her spring 2027 collection at Le Carreau du Temple on Oct. 5, and the most consequential pieces in it were not the dresses. The butterfly supplied the surface. Denim, trousers, separates and flat shoes supplied the position.
It is the first spring collection Zimmermann has shown since the board of the Fédération de la Haute Couture et de la Mode approved its membership on July 3, 2026, alongside Alaïa, The Row and Tom Ford. It is also the first full Paris season under Roberto Eggs, who became chief executive officer on May 1 after 11 years at Moncler Group, where he most recently served as an executive board member and chief business and global market officer.
The Scott Sisters Supplied the Surface
Zimmermann took the collection’s decoration from the natural history studies of Harriet and Helena Scott, the 19th-century Australian illustrators whose drawings of moths and butterflies she has long collected. The show opened on a cropped top worked over with butterflies above a sweeping ivory skirt. According to WWD’s review, the insects were laser-cut organza, double-printed with the Scott sisters’ own drawings.
From there the motif was redistributed rather than repeated. Fabric butterflies landed on maxiskirts, chiffon slips with cascading ruffles, and a pouf skirt. A pale yellow dress scattered the embellishment across sheer layers that dipped on one side and opened high on the other. A blush one-shoulder dress ran printed butterflies and ruffles through an asymmetric skirt.
“It’s the movement and that color,” Nicky Zimmermann told WWD of what she was after. The fabrications backed that up: organza layered over silk so patterns read through each other, lace set against softened drill, and a crisp white cotton poplin shirt finished with a thin lace trim at the collar.
Denim and Loafers Made the Real Argument
Denim is where the collection moved. Faded jeans carried openwork panels down the full length of the leg, turning a category Zimmermann has built quietly over several seasons into a showpiece. White lace trousers sat under an ochre coat and a checked shirt. A tan bomber was thrown over a frothy printed mini. These are pieces a customer wears apart, which is not the historical Zimmermann proposition.
The styling pushed in the same direction. Tinted sunglasses, patterned scarves knotted onto handbag handles, loafers and flat shoes under the most worked dresses. Color ran lemon through pink into lilac, dusky blue and deep indigo denim, with a strong block of whites: a high ruffled-neck blouse with generous sleeves over textured trousers, a lace halter above loose culottes, an ivory halterneck dress with sheer panels running its length.
The house codes held. Print, defined waists, embellishment and clothes built to move are all still here, and so is the resort DNA that made the brand’s name. What shifted is the heel height and the ratio of occasionwear to armadio.
The Butterfly Outstayed Its Own Techniques
Across 51 looks, the motif does almost all the work. It is printed, cut into, appliquéd, and stood away from the surface, and the variation is genuinely technical, but it is variation of method, not of idea. By the back third, decoration is carrying weight that cut, and proportion should be taking, and several of the sheer layered dresses are separated only by palette.
The commercial problem is adjacent. The categories meant to widen the business, denim, trousers, and separates, are also the ones loaded with the most handwork: cutwork, openwork panels, lace insertion. Those techniques keep the pieces in a high price band, where they compete with the house’s own dresses instead of opening an entry point beneath them. The flat shoes and loafers, meanwhile, signal footwear ambition the house has not yet proved at scale. Zimmermann has not published spring 2027 retail prices.
A Fédération Seat Raises Zimmermann’s Commercial Stakes
Zimmermann has been on the Paris calendar since 2022, and full membership secures that slot rather than merely renewing it. “Paris continues to inspire us every season,” Nicky Zimmermann said in the statement announcing the admission.
The commercial backdrop is unusually busy for a house this size. Advent International bought a majority stake from Style Capital in 2023 in a deal that valued Zimmermann at $1.15 billion, with the Zimmermann family and Style Capital retaining significant minority holdings and the company then operating 58 stand-alone stores. In February 2026, FashionUnited reported the brand was forecasting annual turnover of 645.7 million Australian dollars for 2025. Chris Olliver, chief executive officer since 2005, moved to executive chairman when Eggs arrived. The store rollout has continued through 2026 with a second London boutique on Sloane Street, plus openings including Nice, Venice, Mykonos, Abu Dhabi and Hangzhou.
Per il New York customer the daywear question is the whole question. Zimmermann’s Madison Avenue and SoHo boutiques sell a dress business to a city with a short outdoor season, and a jean with a cutwork panel travels further uptown in March than a pouf skirt does.
The butterflies will photograph well and will sell the one-off dress to the customer who already comes for it. The harder test is whether the trousers, the bomber and the loafers are a category or a garnish. On this evidence, Zimmermann knows which answer she wants.
