Thom Browne

Thom Browne (born September 27, 1965, Allentown, Pennsylvania) is an American fashion designer and the founder and head of design for Thom Browne, a luxury fashion brand based in New York City. After pursuing an acting career in Los Angeles from 1992 to 1998, Browne moved to New York in 1997, worked as a salesman at Armani’s wholesale showroom, and led Club Monaco’s creative development team before launching his eponymous business with made-to-measure suits in 2001.

Browne’s breakthrough was his reimagining of the suit — shrinking proportions and cutting the fit closer to the body, encapsulated by his signature grey suit. Every Thom Browne piece includes a red-white-and-blue striped grosgrain ribbon. He debuted his first menswear runway show at NYFW in 2005 and launched womenswear at NYFW in 2012.

His accolades include the CFDA Menswear Designer of the Year Award (2006, 2013, 2016), the GQ Designer of the Year (2008), the Cooper Hewitt National Design Award (2012), and the FIT Couture Council Award (2017). In 2023, Browne became Chairman of the CFDA, succeeding Tom Ford. His designs are recognized by the MET Costume Institute, MoMA, the V&A, and the Costume Museum at Bath. Thom Browne closes the official NYFW SS27 schedule.
