Diane von Furstenberg
Diane von Furstenberg (born Diane Simone Michele Halfin, December 31, 1946, Brussels, Belgium) is a Belgian-American fashion designer best known for inventing the wrap dress in 1974. She initially rose to prominence in 1969 when she married into the German princely House of Fürstenberg. Following their separation, she retained the family name and built one of fashion’s most enduring global brands. Her company, Diane von Furstenberg (DVF), is available in over 70 countries and 45 free-standing shops worldwide, with headquarters and a flagship boutique in Manhattan’s Meatpacking District.
The wrap dress — made of silk jersey with a fitted top and wrap-around skirt — became a symbol of women’s liberation and empowerment in the 1970s. DVF has presented collections at New York Fashion Week for decades, and the brand has been a consistent presence on the CFDA Official Schedule. Von Furstenberg served as Chairman of the CFDA from 2006 to 2015, during which time she championed emerging American designers and sustainability initiatives. She has received the CFDA Lifetime Achievement Award and numerous other industry honors.
For SS27, the schedule opens with DVF at 9:30 AM on Thursday, September 10 — a notable slot, as the CFDA confirmed that Henry Zankov (a Russian-born American designer and 2023 CFDA/Vogue Fashion Fund runner-up) is making his debut as creative director of Diane von Furstenberg for this season, marking a new chapter for the iconic house.
