K-Pop’s legendary duo TVXQ! return with their 9th full-length album, 20&2现已通过 SM Entertainment. Marking 20 years since their debut, the 10-track album covers a variety of genres befitting their storied music career, including the addictively powerful title track “Rebel.” The album is now available on various music sites including iTunes, Apple Music, Spotify, and more – listen 这里 and watch the official video for “Rebel” 这里.
20&2 是 TVXQ!’s first regular release in five years and features solo tracks from members U-KNOW 和 MAX CHANGMIN, along with personal lyrics from MAX CHANGMIN. It also sees the return of producer 肯齐, who has produced numerous hit songs for TVXQ! over their career.
The title track “Rebel” is a dance song characterized by intense drum beats and a weighty synth bass that culminates in explosive energy. The lyrics convey a message that a ‘true rebel of an era’ isn’t someone who simply opposes conventional notions, but someone who unwaveringly pushes forward with their beliefs. It reflects the path that TVXQ! have walked until now, while also looking to their future.
"Rebel” is followed by the slow R&B dance song “Down,” which portrays a fervent longing for love. Continuing with the dance vibes, “Rodeo” expresses an unchanging desire for the stage. “Jungle,” a hip-hop-based dance song, delves into TVXQ!‘s unique challenges over the years, comparing reality to a jungle. “Life’s A Dance” highlights TVXQ!’s unique musical style and plays on the idea that looking back at life after a long journey feels like a fantastic dance.
Following that, U-KNOW’s solo track “Fix It” conveys warm encouragement, stating that one’s existence itself radiates light. The song features a verse from Korean rapper DINDIN. MAX CHANGMIN’s solo track “Take My Breath Away” is the perfect vehicle for the singer’s compelling vocals, sweetly offering to be a pillar of strength for those who are lonely and tired.
"Promise” is MAX CHANGMIN’s personally penned song to fans, expressing his appreciation for those who have been by his side throughout TVXQ!’s journey. Penultimate track “The Way U Are” is an unplugged reinterpretation of the duo’s 2004 single, in celebration of their 20th anniversary. Lastly, the ballad “Starlight” expresses U-KNOW 和 MAX CHANGMIN’s sentiment and gratitude for the memories they’ve made with their fans. With a total of 10 songs, this album encompasses TVXQ!’s past, present, and future, making it a meaningful album for the artists and fans alike.
Though TVXQ!’s last studio release New Chapter #2 : The Truth of Love was released five years ago, marking their 15th anniversary in December 2018, the members have kept fans busy with various solo activities. Earlier this year, U-KNOW released his third EP 真人秀, preceded by MAX CHANGMIN releasing his second EP Devil in 2022. Following the release of 20&2 – which stands for 20 years & 2 members – U-KNOW 和 MAX CHANGMIN will embark on an accompanying tour, kicking off in Seoul, South Korea at the end of December.
