Labrum

Labrum London is the menswear and womenswear label founded by Sierra Leonean-British designer Foday Dumbuya, and it has become one of the most culturally significant independent British brands of the past decade. Dumbuya moved to London from Sierra Leone as a child, and the label’s practice centres on telling stories from West Africa and its diaspora — collections are built around specific narratives and craft traditions, with artisanal textile techniques, hand-woven and hand-dyed fabric, and collaborative production with makers in Sierra Leone and elsewhere. Labrum has dressed the Sierra Leone Olympic team and the country’s football association, and Dumbuya was awarded an OBE.

The label won the BFC/GQ Designer Fashion Fund, the British Fashion Council’s annual award run in partnership with GQ, which provides a substantial cash prize, mentoring and business support — the “GQ” designation on this listing. It is one of the most commercially and critically recognised independent labels in the UK.
