LACOSTE
LACOSTE presents on the official calendar as one of French sportswear’s most historically significant houses. Founded in 1933 by tennis champion René Lacoste, who had earned the nickname “the Crocodile” for his tenacity on court, the house pioneered the modern polo shirt — a soft, breathable piqué cotton design intended to replace the stiff, long-sleeved shirts tennis players had worn until then, stamped with the now-iconic crocodile logo that remains one of fashion’s most globally recognized emblems.
Lacoste’s influence on twentieth-century sportswear cannot be overstated: the brand effectively invented the category of designer logo apparel, predating the broader explosion of branded sportswear by decades, and the polo shirt itself became a foundational garment of preppy, country-club style across both Europe and America. The house has continued to balance its heritage tennis identity with contemporary ready-to-wear ambitions, maintaining an ongoing relationship with professional tennis sponsorship while expanding its runway presence to demonstrate the brand’s relevance well beyond the court.
For S/S 2027, LACOSTE presents on the official Paris calendar continuing over ninety years of translating competitive sport’s practical demands into globally recognizable, culturally enduring fashion — a house whose founding garment remains as ubiquitous today as when René Lacoste first wore it.
