Altuzarra is a New York-based luxury womenswear brand founded in 2008 by French-American designer Joseph Altuzarra, who was born in Paris in 1983 to a Chinese-American mother and a French father. He graduated from Swarthmore College with a BA in art and art history, then interned at Marc Jacobs and Proenza Schouler before apprenticing with patternmaker Nicolas Caïto and working as first assistant to Givenchy’s Riccardo Tisci. He launched Altuzarra in New York in 2008, with his mother Karen serving as CEO. The first collection was picked up by Dover Street Market, Ikram, and Barneys New York.

Altuzarra’s accolades include the 2011 CFDA/Vogue Fashion Fund award, the 2012 CFDA Swarovski Award for Womenswear, the 2014 CFDA Womenswear Designer of the Year, and a 2017 Accessories Council Designer of the Year honor. From 2013 to 2020, Kering held a minority stake in the brand. After showing in Paris for four years (2018–2021), Altuzarra returned to NYFW in 2021. In 2022, the brand launched a second line, Altu. In 2024, New York-based investment firm P180 took a minority stake. The brand’s studio has been based in the Woolworth Building since 2017.
