Across 52 looks in the basement of the Carrousel du Louvre, Roseberry broke the house’s eveningwear into separates. It is his clearest ready-to-wear argument yet, and his most repetitive

Schiaparelli Spring 2027 Ready-to-Wear at Paris Fashion Week

PARIS — Daniel Roseberry spent Schiaparelli’s spring 2027 ready-to-wear show taking the house’s gowns apart. “Going Clear” ran 52 looks through the basement of the Carrousel du Louvre on Oct. 1, built on separates in a palette the designer limited to what he calls Schiap black, bone and butter, with color held back for a run of jackets and the closing looks.

Seven years into his tenure, this is the first Schiaparelli ready-to-wear collection organized around a system rather than a spectacle. Roseberry’s show notes call the governing idea distillation, and describe signature silhouettes, gowns and necklines reimagined as tops and bottoms – a modular kit indexed to American sportswear and his Texas upbringing. The useful question is not whether Schiaparelli can cut a cocktail dress. It is whether the house’s vocabulary survives being split in half.

The Gown Comes Apart Into Tops and Bottoms

House muse Maggie Maurer opened in a backward tuxedo dress reproportioned with hourglass boning – a couture construction trick applied to a garment meant to be worn on a Tuesday. That logic carried the first third of the show. Broderie anglaise made the trip down from couture; lace that began as an evening dress reappeared as micro shorts, a bodysuit, and a slip dress.

The division worked where the construction came with it. Where it didn’t – where a neckline became a top and nothing structural followed – the piece read as a well-made separate from a house with a famous name, which is a different and much cheaper proposition.

Eight Schiap Jackets Do the Heaviest Lifting

Roseberry ran eight versions of the Schiap jacket, several in an archival palette of kingfisher blue, moss green and salmon pink, one carrying the vegetable embroidery Elsa Schiaparelli developed out of wartime rationing in the early ’40s. Knitwear got comparable attention, including a sheer viscose tree-bark knit built off a fabric from the founder’s own experiments.

Those two categories are the collection’s spine, and not by accident: the jacket and the knit are the pieces clients buy in multiples. They also establish the house without the help of a logo.

Ruffles Lifted From the Place Vendôme Curtains

The best idea in the collection is the smallest. Ruffles in leather and linen were drawn from the curtains that once hung in the second-floor windows of the Place Vendôme atelier, a detail Roseberry says always looked out of place in that room – and he wanted the ruffles to “feel a bit wrong as well.” They do. Paired with lettuce hems and asymmetrical openings, they give the collection its only real strangeness.

That is the house’s actual inheritance. Surrealism at Schiaparelli was never primarily about scale or shock; it was about an object turning up where it shouldn’t be. A leather ruffle on a linen top gets closer to that than any lobster ever has.

Where Distillation Slides Into Repetition

Fifty-two looks is a long runway for an argument about subtraction. By the middle passage, the separates had begun to restate themselves, and the black-and-bone base pieces were identifiable as Schiaparelli largely through hardware – the keyhole and the lips, placed at the back of a collar, on the toe of a shoe, buried in embroidery on a top-handle bag. Remove the code and the cut does not reliably carry the house. For a collection premised on essence, that is a real structural problem: the essence turns out to be an appliqué.

Il accessori compound it. A menagerie of spirit-animal earrings, cuffs and brooches – horses, dolphins, pigs, dogs, cats, spiders – is charming, and it is also precisely the novelty economy the title claims to be walking away from. Going clear and buying a spider brooch are not the same gesture.

The sheer embroidered shirts sit in a similar bind. Placing couture-weight vegetable and feather embroidery on transparent fabric is the collection’s most technically interesting move, and it is still a couture move: the value lives in the handwork, not the garment’s usefulness. The pieces that most convincingly argued for Schiaparelli as a ready-to-wear house were the ones that needed no embroidery at all.

A Speakeasy Set Undercuts the Renunciation

Roseberry staged the show as a speakeasy, with guests at café tables drinking Champagne, among them Tate McRae and Marisa Berenson, Elsa Schiaparelli’s granddaughter. The notes define going clear as unsubscribing from the noise and leaving gossip and social media behind.

The set was built to be photographed. That contradiction doesn’t invalidate the clothes, but it leaves the thesis half-argued: the collection asks for restraint while the staging demands attention, and the show never decides which it believes.

Ten Doors, and a Wardrobe Designed for Multiples

A modular armadio is a commercial proposition before it is a design one – it asks a client to buy three pieces where she previously bought one. Schiaparelli, relaunched by Diego Della Valle in 2012 and run by chief executive officer Delphine Bellini since 2014, operated about 10 stores worldwide as of 2026, expanded its Bergdorf Goodman boutique to 1,185 square feet in June, and is opening its first U.S. stand-alone at South Coast Plaza this fall; Saks Global is its largest retail footprint. The house is privately held and publishes no results, so the sell-through case for separates cannot be checked from outside.

“We don’t have a ‘commercial’ collection. These are the clothes,” Roseberry wrote in his notes. That is a claim a scarcity model permits and a retail buildout tests. A ten-door network is a narrow instrument for proving that clients want a kit rather than a showpiece – and the house’s archive is simultaneously on public view at the Victoria and Albert Museum in London through Nov. 8, which sets a high bar for what counts as essential Schiaparelli.

Keep the ruffles. In a collection that spent 52 looks arguing for clarity, the one detail that still looks like it wandered in from the wrong room is the only thing here nobody else can make.
