Pininfarina Designs The Skywalk And Stargate For The Nitto ATP Finals In Turin

The two design projects, developed in collaboration with the Italian Tennis and Padel Federation, enhance the Nitto ATP Finals experience, extending its energy beyond the confines of the Inalpi Arena.

On the occasion of the Nitto ATP Finals, Pininfarina is presenting two experiential architecture projects developed in collaboration with the Italian Tennis and Padel Federation (FITP). Two distinct projects, a single vision: to enrich the Nitto ATP Finals experience by strengthening the relationship between space, people, and the spectacle through a design language that combines elegance, innovation, and performance.

The players’ entrance, Skywalk, designed by Pininfarina, transforms their arrival into a spectacular gesture of great symbolic significance, while Stargate, designed by Pininfarina, in Piazza San Carlo, becomes a new iconic feature of the Nitto ATP Finals, helping to bring the tournament’s atmosphere to the heart of the city and inviting the public to enjoy a shared and memorable experience.

“From day one, we wanted the Nitto ATP Finals to be an asset for Turin, not only during the tournament but also in the way they help enhance the city’s spaces and identity. The project designed by Pininfarina perfectly interprets this vision, bringing together Italian excellence, innovation, and a new experience for athletes, residents, and fans. – Angelo Binaghi, President of the Italian Tennis and Padel Federation

“We are proud to collaborate with the Italian Tennis and Padel Federation on a project that authentically embodies the values we share: the pursuit of excellence, innovation, a passion for sports, and the desire to create meaningful and accessible experiences for people. For Pininfarina, this project takes on even deeper significance because it originates in Turin, our city, where for nearly a century we have cultivated a design culture capable of combining beauty, functionality, and an international vision. Putting our design culture and know-how at the service of the Nitto ATP Finals means helping to strengthen Turin’s role as a capital of major sporting events and design excellence. Sports embody passion, energy, and the ability to bring people together, values that also guide our approach to design. The two new structures are conceived not only as icons of the tournament but as assets for the city, spaces accessible to and enjoyed by the community, destined to leave a tangible and lasting legacy. It is our way of giving back to Turin a project that interprets its identity, highlighting its commitment to innovation and its ability to look to the future without losing touch with its roots.” – Paolo Dellachà, CEO of Pininfarina

Skywalk Design by Pininfarina: A Dialogue Between Architecture, Movement and Spectacle

At the heart of the project is a 60-meter-long walkway that, during the Nitto ATP Finals, will connect the Inalpi Arena to the Fan Village and the Red Bull Energy Station, transforming a functional structure into a visually striking experience.

Designed to provide athletes with a dedicated, secure, and private connection between the various areas of the Nitto ATP Finals, the structure also redefines the relationship between the champions and the audience. Suspended six meters above the ground, the players traverse a space that highlights their entrance onto the court, offering spectators a privileged vantage point and a new opportunity to connect with the tournament’s stars.

Large Sails Evoking a Tennis Rally

The walkway’s identity is defined by its large sails, over 440 square meters of light, fluid surfaces that envelop the structure with a dynamic and recognizable form. Their mirror-like pattern evokes the rhythm and trajectory of a tennis rally, creating a composition that balances tension and harmony, where the two ends interact in a continuous formal relationship.

The experience is further enhanced by a system of illuminated modules that accompany the path with a sequence of integrated light elements, transforming the walkway into a true visual narrative and accentuating the structure’s iconic character.

Sustainability and Reversibility

In line with Pininfarina’s design approach, the walkway was developed according to the principles of efficiency, sustainability, and reversibility. Entirely prefabricated off-site and composed of modular elements, it can be assembled and subsequently removed in an extremely short amount of time, minimizing the impact on the urban area and ensuring full usability of the public space. This project demonstrates how construction innovation, architectural quality, and environmental responsibility can converge into a unified vision.

Stargate Design by Pininfarina: The Landmark of the Nitto ATP Finals in the Heart of Turin

With Stargate, the identity of the Nitto ATP Finals extends into the heart of Turin, transforming Piazza San Carlo into a symbolic meeting place for the city, the athletes, and the public. More than just an installation, Stargate, designed by Pininfarina, reimagines the entrance to the tournament as a moment of profound symbolic significance, helping to enrich the Nitto ATP Finals experience even beyond the confines of the Inalpi Arena.

Situated at the heart of the city’s activities during the Nitto ATP Finals, the installation becomes one of the main points of contact with the tournament’s world, welcoming the champions and guiding the public through a shared experience that brings the historic center to life for the entire duration of the evento.

The Blue Carpet Moment

Its most iconic moment coincides with the athletes’ walk down the Blue Carpet at the Nitto ATP Finals. As they pass through the Stargate, the players transform a simple walk into an entrance ritual, amplifying anticipation and strengthening the connection among the athletes, the city, and the spectators.

The installation’s design language echoes the fluid lines and geometric forms of the Skywalk’s “Ribbons,” creating architectural and narrative continuity between the two structures. The result is a cohesive design system in which every element contributes to defining a single visual identity, ideally connecting Piazza San Carlo to the tennis court through a distinctive, elegant, and instantly recognizable symbol.

Conceived as a new urban landmark, Stargate celebrates the convergence of design, sports, and public space, offering citizens, visitors, and fans an immersive experience that accompanies and enhances the narrative of the Nitto ATP Finals throughout the city.
