Prada opens Milan Fashion Week SS27. Founded in 1913 by Mario Prada in Milan as a luxury leather-goods house — famous for the Galleria bag of 1913 and the Pocone nylon backpack — Prada became a global fashion force under Miuccia Prada, who joined the family firm in 1978 and took the helm alongside CEO Patrizio Bertelli. Miuccia’s intellectual, convention-subverting womenswear — from the 1980s “ugly chic” to the 1990s minimalism — redefined modern luxury, while the 1990s Miu Miu diffusion line and menswear further extended the group. Since February 2020 Miuccia has co-created with Raf Simons in one of fashion’s most scrutinized partnerships. The house is a pillar of the CNMI calendar, typically opening or anchoring Milan Fashion Week; its Fondazione Prada cultural institution, designed by OMA, is a Milan landmark. Prada SpA (Prada Group) is publicly listed in Hong Kong and owns Prada, Miu Miu, Church’s and Car Shoe. The SS27 collection continues the label’s examination of femininity, craft and codes.
