35th Annual Hong Kong Boat Dragon Race: The Ultimate Celebration of Tradition and Sport
The 35th Annual Hong Kong Dragon Boat Festival in New York took place on August 9–10, 2025, at Flushing Meadows Corona Park in Queens, marking a significant milestone in this vibrant cultural tradition. This year’s festival honored the Year of the Snake, symbolizing wisdom, charm, and renewal, and featured a blend of exhilarating dragon boat races, cultural performances, and international cuisine.

Dragon Boat Races: Nearly 200 teams, each comprising up to 20 paddlers, competed in races across Meadow Lake. The rhythmic drumming and synchronized paddling showcased the deep-rooted traditions of this ancient sport. Teams participated in various categories, including Open, Youth Invitational, Charity, Non-Profit, and Corporate Challenges.

Cultural Performances: The festival featured live performances from diverse cultural groups, including the Chinese Music Ensemble of New York, Latin Jazz Express, Valerie Green/Dance Entropys, Manhattan Taiko, Shamisen & Japanese Folk Dance, and the New York Shaolin Temple Kung Fu. These performances highlighted the rich cultural tapestry of the community.

International Food Court: Attendees enjoyed a variety of authentic Asian and international cuisines, offering a culinary journey that complemented the cultural festivities.
