The 52nd annual Village Halloween Day Parade in Greenwich Village went ahead Friday night under the 2025 theme “It’s a Potluck!” — a celebration meant to spotlight community and abundance with City Harvest serving as this year’s Grand Marshal. The parade’s organizers described City Harvest as “fitting perfectly” with the potluck theme because of the nonprofit’s work rescuing fresh produce and delivering it to New Yorkers in need.
After a week of heavy rain, the streets were clear but chilly and windy — conditions photographers and reporters noted did not stop thousands of costumed marchers and huge crowds of spectators from filling Sixth Avenue for the procession.
What rolled up Sixth Avenue: the parade began at Canal Street and marched north to 15th Street (the lineup usually opens around 6:30 pm, and the procession started around 7 pm). This year’s parade included large signature puppets (such as skeletons and pumpkins) and other giant figures, as well as roughly a dozen floats (reportedly, about 14 floats were readied in nearby workshops). The event also featured bands, dance groups, and hundreds of costumed participants — all part of the participatory, free event. Restaurateur/philanthropist Simon Kim represented City Harvest on a cornucopia-themed float.
