UMA WANG

UMA WANG presents her richly textured, literary womenswear on Thursday’s runway. The Shanghai-based designer studied at Donghua University before founding her eponymous house in 2005, building a reputation over two decades for a design language that draws heavily on painterly texture, historical reference, and a muted, tonal color palette — worn, weathered fabrics and layered draping that give her collections a distinctly literary, almost archival quality rather than conventional seasonal polish.

Wang has become one of the most internationally respected designers to emerge from mainland China’s contemporary fashion scene, showing regularly in both Milan and Paris and building a reputation for garments that feel excavated from another era rather than newly made — heavy linens, distressed silks, and hand-finished embroidery applied with a painter’s rather than a tailor’s sensibility. Her work has been championed by international retailers and press specifically for resisting the more commercially driven, logo-forward aesthetic often associated with rapidly scaling Chinese fashion brands, instead building a house around slow, materially rich, intellectually driven design.

For S/S 2027, UMA WANG presents on the Paris runway continuing her now two-decade project of treating fabric itself — its weight, its history, its imperfection — as the primary storytelling device of each collection.
