Mfpen
Mfpen is a Copenhagen-based menswear brand founded in 2015–2016 by designer Sigurd Bank. The brand name is a Danish term for signing on someone else’s behalf. Bank started the label as a side project while working two other jobs — one as a trained production manager and designer, the other pouring beers at a local pub. He was able to ride the e-commerce boom during COVID-19 and hire his first employee. He now runs a team of 13, including production, development, and store staff.
Mfpen is a modern clothing brand that reinterprets classic garments through relaxed silhouettes and a commitment to responsible production. The aesthetic draws on both retrospective and countercultural notions to look ahead and shape the evolution of classic European tailoring and design, creating timeless garments with a sense of understated, refined elegance. Bank’s background in hardcore music and graffiti culture informs the brand’s subtle rebelliousness.
The production process follows a responsible hierarchy: prioritizing high-quality European deadstock fabrics sourced from excess stock within the la mode industry. When deadstock isn’t available, the brand turns to recycled and biodegradable fabrics, using certified organic cotton only as a last resort. Mfpen rarely uses polyester, and when it does, it’s always recycled.
The brand has gained significant international recognition. GQ profiled Bank and the label, calling it “Scandinavian minimalism that’s actually fun to wear.” Mfpen was featured by the LVMH Prize on Instagram, highlighting its responsible production ethos. The brand is available through its own Copenhagen store and international stockists. For SS27, Mfpen presents in show format, continuing its role as one of Copenhagen’s leading menswear voices.
