ISABEL MARANT
ISABEL MARANT closes Thursday’s programme as the designer most closely credited with codifying the effortless “French girl” aesthetic that has influenced global ready-to-wear for over three decades. Founded in 1994, the house built its reputation on relaxed, bohemian-inflected pieces designed to look almost accidentally chic — ethnic-inspired prints, fringe, and, most famously, the Marant wedge sneaker, which became one of the defining footwear phenomena of the early 2010s and helped establish the sneaker as a genuine luxury fashion category.
Marant has remained creative director of her own house throughout its entire run, maintaining an unusually consistent design identity built around the idea that clothing should feel lived-in and unstudied rather than overtly constructed — a philosophy that has made the brand a durable favorite among a customer base drawn to Parisian style specifically because it resists looking too try-hard. The house remains independently run, expanding gradually into menswear and a broader accessories business while staying deliberately smaller in scale than many of its more heavily marketed Paris contemporaries.
For S/S 2027, ISABEL MARANT closes Thursday’s runway continuing over thirty years of proving that understated, wearable bohemian style can hold its own commercial and cultural weight against Paris’s grander, more overtly theatrical houses.
