CFCL
CFCL presents its technology-driven sustainable knitwear on Tuesday’s runway. Founder Yusuke Takahashi spent a decade at the Miyake Design Studio, becoming head designer of Issey Miyake Men in 2013 and leading that line for six years, before launching his own house in 2020 — CFCL stands for “Clothing For Contemporary Life,” a name chosen to reflect Takahashi’s design philosophy of temporality, futurism, and above all practicality over spectacle.
The brand’s core innovation is computer-programmed 3D knitting, a technology Takahashi first encountered as a student: because the process eliminates fabric cutting entirely, it produces almost no material waste, and CFCL pairs the technique with recycled and biodegradable fibers to create stretchy, easy-care garments engineered for genuinely comfortable, mobile urban living. In 2022, CFCL became the first Japanese apparel brand to achieve B Corp certification, and Takahashi has continued to invest in the underlying technology, opening a dedicated knitting laboratory and factory in Tokyo to push further collaboration between digital fabrication and traditional artisanal technique. He has been recognized with the Mainichi Fashion Grand Prix, the Shiseido Sponsorship Award, and the Fashion Prize of Tokyo.
For S/S 2027, CFCL presents on the official Paris calendar continuing Takahashi’s explicitly rational, unsentimental case for sustainable fashion — knitwear engineered from first principles to serve how people actually live now.
