Burç Akyol

BURÇ AKYOL presents his eighth-anniversary collection on Tuesday’s runway. Born in France to Turkish parents, Akyol arrived in Paris at sixteen, gave up an early acting career, and trained at the École de la Chambre Syndicale de la Couture Parisienne before working at Christian Dior, Balenciaga, and Esteban Cortázar. He launched his own label in 2019 with a philosophy of flawless tailoring fused with what he describes as Oriental panache — flowing capes, split harem pants, and, most famously, a metal-hands bustier inspired by Janet Jackson’s 1993 Rolling Stone cover, which has since been worn editorially by Cate Blanchett and Cardi B.

Akyol’s runway has become known as a genuine community event: to secure permission for shows staged from his own apartment building, he canvassed all seventy of his neighbors door to door, and now the whole building turns out on show day, with one neighbor serving guests champagne after the presentation. His designs have been worn on red carpets by Kendall Jenner, Elizabeth Debicki, and Gabrielle Union, and the house won the Pierre Bergé Prize at the ANDAM Fashion Awards. Recent seasons have shown at the Institut du Monde Arabe, including a collection titled “Gülistan” — a “cry from the heart” addressing wars and massacres around the world — and a Fall/Winter 2026-27 collection reimagining the mythology of the Parisienne.

For S/S 2027, BURÇ AKYOL continues building on a body of work that fuses austerity and sensuality — a designer who has said Paris welcomed him without ever asking him to shrink who he is.
