Alvarno

Alvarno is a Spanish womenswear label founded in 2009 by the designer duo Álvaro Castejón and Arnaud Maillard. Maillard set his sights on a career in the fine arts from a young age, joining the Atelier Fleuri Delaporte and training as a designer; Castejón is his creative partner across the house. The pair are established figures in fashion beyond their own label: in 2013 they were appointed creative directors of the French house Azzaro, directing its collections while continuing their Madrid practice.

Alvarno’s return to the MBFWMadrid calendar this edition is one of the headline stories of the season — the house had not participated on the runway since January 2018, as the designers themselves confirmed in an interview with FashionUnited. The label is positioned by the organisation among the houses that hold “a clearly distinct position with their independent shows, but within the official MBFWMadrid calendar,” and for this edition stages an OFF-format show in the incomparable setting of the Galería de las Colecciones Reales, the royal collections gallery situated between the Palacio Real and the Almudena Cathedral.
