“Her Threads” Weaves Memory and Identity into Fashion

During Milan Fashion Week on March 1, 2026, HUI Milano presented its Fall-Winter 2026/27 collection titled “Her Threads” at Via San Gregorio 29 in Milan. The collection was created by Huizhou Zhao, the brand’s founder and creative director, and a recognized ambassador of Chinese style in Italy.
The collection is rooted in the ancient Chinese tradition of Nü Gong, a form of embroidery historically practiced by women. Through this collection, HUI Milano reinterprets the tradition as a modern language that reflects identity, memory, and resilience.
Nü Gong represents more than a craft. It is a cultural heritage passed down through generations. Through this practice, women historically stitched their emotions, hopes, and personal stories into fabric. With “Her Threads,” HUI Milano transforms this intimate tradition into a powerful visual narrative for the international fashion stage.
The runway show was designed as an immersive journey built around suspended threads. This symbolic environment accompanied the models, which represented different phases in a woman’s life. The visual concept moved from innocence to self-awareness, and from invisibility to empowerment, reflecting emotional and social transformations across time.
Embroidery plays a central role in the collection. Rather than being used purely as decoration, embroidery functions as storytelling. Many of the stitches are hidden within the garments, placed along seams, cuffs, and backs. These subtle details highlight the often invisible labor and heritage carried by women across generations.
Throughout the collection, threads evolve from delicate fibers into stronger structures. This transformation symbolizes the changing role of women, from silent figures in history to active and conscious protagonists shaping their own futures.
The color palette follows this narrative progression. It begins with soft, ethereal tones, gradually deepens into more introspective shades, and concludes with luminous white tones that represent self-determination and freedom. As the show progresses, the space becomes brighter, reinforcing the message that women are not defined by the systems they inherit but instead have the power to shape the world themselves.
With “Her Threads,” HUI Milano creates a bridge between Chinese cultural heritage and contemporary global fashion. The collection reflects themes of healing, continuity, and the creative strength of womanhood.
This vision reflects the work of Huizhou Zhao, who has long dedicated her career to connecting Eastern craftsmanship with the Western moda system and introducing traditional Chinese artisanal narratives into a modern international context.
Because history is not only written. Sometimes, it is embroidered.
