VAQUERA presents its irreverent, dadaist “fashion fan fiction” on Wednesday evening. Founded in New York in 2013 by Patric DiCaprio alongside original co-designers Bryn Taubensee, Claire Sullivan, and David Moses, the label built its early reputation on absurdist, DIY-inflected pieces — a dress made from a Tiffany & Co. shopping bag, oversized bra T-shirts, exaggerated proportions — that treated American fashion tropes, celebrity culture, and consumerism as material to be mined and mocked in equal measure. The house is now helmed by two of its four original founders, DiCaprio and Taubensee. 

Vaquera’s relationship with Dover Street Market has been central to its growth: the retailer hosted the designers’ first New York runway show in 2020 and later brought them into its Paris-based showroom-incubator alongside labels like Eli Russell Linnetz and Rassvet, supporting the brand’s move onto the official Paris Fashion Week calendar in 2022. In a significant shift, DiCaprio and Taubensee relocated Vaquera’s workshop from New York to Paris in 2025, seeking deeper cultural ties and a way out of the relative isolation of operating independently from the U.S. The label remains self-funded, without major outside investment, prioritizing limited production runs and direct-to-consumer sales even as it has grown its accessories and outerwear categories. 

For S/S 2027, VAQUERA continues telling fashion’s own stories back to itself with a wink — a genuinely independent house that has, over more than a decade, made the leap from a Brooklyn skate-park studio to a permanent home on the Paris runway.
