Global Superstar Sting to Headline 28th Annual Intercontinental Miami Make-A-Wish Ball On November 4
Grammy Award®-winning artist was announced at the official kickoff celebration for highly
anticipated fundraiser to benefit Make-A-Wish® Southern Florida

The exciting news was presented at the recent kickoff event for the highly anticipated fundraiser, which benefits children with critical illnesses.
Composer, singer-songwriter, actor, author, and activist স্টিং has made an enduring impact on the music world with a career spanning over five decades. Co-founding The Police in 1977, Sting, along with his band, achieved iconic status with six Grammy Awards® and a place in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. Sting’s solo career added 11 more Grammy Awards®, two Brit Awards, and numerous accolades including Commander of the Order of the British Empire (CBE) from Queen Elizabeth II. Beyond music, he’s made his mark in film, theater, and various humanitarian causes, demonstrating his lasting influence. Guests were welcomed at the kickoff celebration by Shareef M. Malnik, Gala Chair of the InterContinental® Miami Make-A-Wish® Ball for the past 18 years; Glenn Sampert, General Manager of InterContinental® Miami and Gala Host of the InterContinental® Miami Make-A-Wish® Ball; and Norman Wedderburn, President and CEO of Make-A-Wish Southern Florida – affectionately known as “The Three Amigos.”
The soirée also honored the Ball’s intriguing theme “OCULUS – Le Sceptre Rose.” Conceptualized by Creative Director Maxwell Blandford, the vision will transform InterContinental® Miami into the “World Museum of Art | Musée Mondial D’art” – home to the world’s largest collection of art and jewels in Paris. Ball attendees will become OCULUS spies, tasked with recovering the stolen “Le Sceptre Rose” masterpiece.
InterContinental® Miami Executive Chef Jhonnatan Contreras and his team, including InterContinental® Miami Pastry Chef Francisco Rosario, created clever culinary displays including “jeweled” necklaces from pink macarons studded with sugar “pearls,” as well as the prized Le Sceptre Rose masterpiece crafted entirely from sugar work.
Ball event producer DECO Productions treated guests to an espionage-themed cabaret performance while roving “spies” engaged the enchanted crowd, including actress and filmmaker Gabrielle Anwar, who will return as Celebrity Emcee of the Ball for the 12th consecutive year; DJ Irie; actress Liz Elias; and model Vanessa Ariel Torres.

নরম্যান ওয়েডারবার্ন, President and CEO of Make-A-Wish Southern Florida, highlighted the impact of granting wishes to 553 South Florida children in the past year – in addition to 257 wishes granted through Make-A-Wish® Southern Florida for families across the U.S., making for a total of 800 Wish Families whose lives have been touched by the power of a wish.
The evening’s most heartfelt moment came from Katie Maloney, mother of 5-year-old Wish Kid Charlie Maloney, who was diagnosed with leukemia in 2021. Katie shared how Charlie’s “Super Mario Brothers Wish” – a custom Nintendo-themed 2023 Yamaha golf cart, and celebratory picnic with friends and family – became a symbol of hope during his treatment.
