Alètheia, meaning “truth” in Greek, embodies the concept of revealing what has been hidden or forgotten – something that no longer remains in the shadows. It represents the pursuit of truth, a slow and often painful journey, especially within the realm of fashion. At the start of Francesca Liberatore’s SS26 show, three headpieces with the words “Imagination,” “Possibility,” and “Thinking” set the tone, suggesting their profound connections with the human soul.
Liberatore addresses the precariousness of our times, the contradictions of the fashion industry, and the impact of war. It’s a challenging reality for a creative mind dedicated to both the garment and its narrative. The awareness of such a violent and tumultuous context calls for reflection—a pause to reassess priorities and seek peace in a welcoming environment.
“This season, we’ve all been involved, shaken, overwhelmed by events larger than what a creative mind can absorb. I focused on persistence, on believing in and honing my craft – but with an understanding of what truly matters,” says Liberatore.
The collaboration with Sony, where models wear the WH-1000XM6 headphones, symbolizes both a refuge and a source of calm amidst the chaos. Liberatore’s SS26 collection tells a story of truth in a world where truth itself seems increasingly elusive. Fabrics reclaimed from the past—when quality and beauty were valued – are reimagined into ivory-toned jackets and overcoats. It’s a search for forgotten treasures, objects, and materials that have preserved the craftsmanship of a bygone era.
The collection features raw-edge jerseys, cotton voile, jacquard, and printed laces and florals that intentionally lose their original forms, evolving into oversized, circle-cut jackets and shirts with intricate inlays. Skirts are designed with interchangeable halves, backs that tie like belts, and transform into shoulder straps, shopping bags, and practical totes, complete with branded patches – some even doubling as headphone cases.
The color palette enhances neutral and ivory tones with striking accents of lobster red and deep blues, which gradually fade into misty, moody hues. The show’s slow, deliberate pace amplifies the natural grace of those who choose to slow down, reflect, and, despite the turmoil of the world, still yearn for peace.
