An event hosted by Michael Kors to celebrate the Michael Kors x Yang Mi Whitney handbag collaboration, launching for Qixi 2018 (Chinese Valentine’s Day).

To celebrate Qixi, Yang Mi and Michael Kors designed two special-edition versions of the brand’s popular Whitney handbag. The event coincides with the launch of a global advertising campaign starring Yang Mi and the special product, shot by Chinese female photographer Chen Man.

The event also marks the launch of the Michael Kors x Yang Mi pop-up concept, mirroring the whimsical look and feel of the advertising campaign. Fans can celebrate and explore the Michael Kors x Yang Mi handbags in Shanghai from August 1 to 19, and then in Chengdu from August 25 to September 2.

Yang Mi was in attendance, along with best friend and singer Bibi Zhou. Local tastemakers including Mr Bags, Lucia Liu and Natasha Lau were also in attendance.

The Michael Kors x Yang Mi Whitney bags are available in Michael Kors stores worldwide starting today.

MICHAEL KORS CELEBRATES QIXI WITH DEDICATED GLOBAL CAMPAIGN

PRODUCT COLLABORATION WITH YANG MI AND POP-UP CONCEPT

Michael Kors is pleased to recognize Qixi this year with a dedicated campaign and two special-edition Whitney handbags designed in collaboration with actress and brand ambassador Yang Mi. Qixi, which is based on a nearly 2,000-year-old romantic Chinese legend, most closely resembles Western Valentine’s Day.

The special-edition handbags are a fresh take on the brand’s new Whitney, featuring heart and star-shaped silver-tone hardware in a nod to the meaning of Qixi. The bag will be available in both bright red and black leather, which Yang Mi chose to reflect her personality and personal style.

The Qixi Whitney bags will launch August 1st, at a special event in Shanghai with Yang Mi, and will then be available worldwide. The event will also celebrate the unveiling of the Michael Kors x Yang Mi pop-up concept, allowing fans to celebrate and shop the collaboration in Shanghai from August 1 to 19 and Chengdu from August 25 to September 2.

“I’m very excited to have designed these special bags for Qixi as part of my ambassadorship with Michael Kors,” said Yang Mi. “I find the Michael Kors woman to be chic, charming and confident, and I hope she’ll love these two new handbag styles.”

When speaking about the inspiration behind the new bags, Yang Mi said, “Studs are always a part of my style, so I knew I wanted to use them in these designs. The heart shapes were perfect for symbolizing love this Qixi, while the star shapes were all about adding a little personality and attitude.”

To celebrate the handbag collaboration, Michael Kors is pleased to release a campaign featuring Mi shot by renowned Chinese photographer Chen Man. Inspired by the story of Qixi, she captured the special-edition Whitney against a whimsical backdrop of the sky at sunset. There are also images of Yang Mi with the handbag shot in front of the Shanghai skyline at dusk. An accompanying video will also be released. The global campaign will be distributed via print, outdoor advertising, digital advertising and social media.

“Qixi is one of those special holidays where the sentiment—love that endures—can be understood and celebrated wherever you are,” said Michael Kors. “And when we started to design a celebratory product, I thought who better to partner with than our ambassador Yang Mi.”

The Qixi product will also be available in China via a new WeChat Mini application, where fans can explore the collaboration and complete transactions seamlessly within the social media messaging platform.
