VIBRATE HIGHER BRAND & NON-PROFIT FOUNDATION LAUNCHES WOMEN’S HEALTH DAY SERIES IN HAITI
Foundation Visits Cap-Haitian to Provide Women with Health Education Seminars, Rael Organic Feminine Products, and Yoga Classes
Cap-Haitian, Haiti – Vibrate Higher Foundation, a U.S.-based 501c3 non-profit and the charitable arm of the conscious apparel and wellness company Vibrate Higher, held the organization’s inaugural Women’s Health Day event series in collaboration with Saint Germain Etienne Foundation.
The teams came together to lead seminars educating local women about reproductive health and distributed 250 packs of organic feminine products donated by Rael as well as vitamins and contraception. Vibrate Higher Foundation held the seminars and distributed donated product at the local organization, Women’s Association of Rue 12, and Bel Angelo School as well as led a free yoga class and mindful lifestyle discussion with the groups.
Vibrate Higher Foundation Vice President, Board Member, and Nurse Anesthetist, AnnieThelusmond, first met with the Women’s Association of Rue 12 and led a conversation about their menstrual cycle, bodies, contraception methods, and more as well as distributed donated Rael products along with vitamins and contraception. Women’s Association of Rue 12 is a local, informal association of women who help each other with business needs, child care, and other shared resources.
Sandra Thelusmond, certified yoga instructor and Vibrate Higher Foundation’s Founder and Executive Director, instructed a free yoga class at Alliance Francaise for attendees as well as discussed the Vibrate Higher Foundation’s programs that could benefit the women of the association, challenges the community faces, and how to leverage mindfulness in all aspects of life.
“Women’s Health Daycovers health both from a physical and mental standpoint, which we believe are truly intertwined when it comes to overall wellness,” stated Sandra Thelusmond, Founder & CEO of Vibrate Higher & Vibrate Higher Foundation Executive Director. “That’s why the education of physical health paired with the discussion of mindfulness and mental health in stressful situations, like poverty, are also at the core of our programs.
What I love about supporting local organizations like the Women’s Association of Rue 12 is that they stick together and often pool whatever limited resources they have to help one another get through life. It literally takes a village. I was honored to speak with these women and learn what we can do to directly impact these communities.”
Vibrate Higher Foundation then headed to the Bel Angelo School for the health seminar with senior girls and distributed the Rael product. The young women were overjoyed with the donation and graciously accepted the one to two-month supply of Rael as it was one less thing to worry about during the upcoming final testing season. Many of these girls don’t have access to feminine products and/or the products are too costly for them to purchase. Thelusmond also invited the senior girls to a yoga class she led at a local community center that afternoon.
“To all of these women, healthcare is not even a necessity, but a luxury, and the majority of people have no access to medical care,” says Sandra Thelusmond. “This means that women are also unable to receive access to and education surrounding feminine hygiene and products. Circulating factual, objective women’s health information and distributing donated products from companies like Rael are integral to our Women’s Health Day program success and helping these communities.”
This program being the first in a series of initiatives, a second Women’s Health Day is in development that will consist of giving women in the community access to two OBGYN’s from the United States. These OBYN’s will travel to Haiti for one week to offer appointments and physical consultations as well as education, supplies, and support.
Another important health education initiative on the docket for the Vibrate Higher Foundation is their partnership with the Saint Germain Etienne Foundation in Haiti where they are sponsoring continuing health education for 10 midwives. Midwives are essential in Haiti because many women who live in rural communities utilize them as they cannot make it to a hospital in time to deliver their babies. It is imperative for midwives to stay current on their education and training as they are at the reproductive health forefront for mothers and their families.
In addition to the Women’s Health Day initiatives, Vibrate Higher Foundation is also slated to return in late summer/early fall 2019 to launch the “Yoga and Mindfulness For All” campaign with Alliance Francaise du Cap Haitian. Through partnerships with local organizations, the organization will train and mentor local individuals who may be interested in wellness, meditation, and yoga – to help serve their communities. The individuals trained will teach 1-2 free classes weekly at schools and community centers to continue spreading yoga and mindfulness.
