Untitled Art, Miami Beach’s Seventh Edition Closes with Record Attendance, Sold Out Booths, Strong Sales, Dynamic Programming and Special Projects

On Sunday, December 9, Untitled Art, Miami Beach closed its seventh edition with reports of robust sales starting at the preview and continuing through closing day.  The fair held its position as a must-attend event among the many activities taking place during Miami Art Week, setting a record for attendance of 43,000 visitors that included notable collectors, curators, museum professionals, artists and the general public. The 2018 edition of the fair was led by Executive Director Manuela Mozo in partnership with Artistic Director Omar López-Chahoud and guest curator AGUAS.

Exhibitors

The curated fair featured a dynamic roster of 133 international exhibitors from 29 countries and 55 cities. The fair was pleased to welcome 46 new exhibitors from around the globe including galleries from GeorgiaGhanaGreeceItalyPeruSwitzerland, and Zimbabwe as well as a continuing strong presence of galleries from Europe, and Latin and North America. Sold Out Booths and Strong Sales Throughout

Strong sales began within the first hour of the opening and remained steady throughout the fair. Sold out booths were reported as well as exhibitors selling out works by particular artists. Acquisitions were made by a number of national and international institutions, as well as private collections from around the world. Inaugural Otazu Art Prize

The 2018 edition of Untitled Art, Miami Beach presented the inaugural Otazu Art Prize which was awarded to José Luis Landet for his work Estar siendo. Bajo una bandera ajena, presented by NF/Nieves Fernandez of Madrid, ES. Learn more here.

Special Projects and Programming

For the seventh edition Untitled Art’s Artistic Director Omar Lopez-Chahoud worked with guest curator AGUAS, the artist-led curatorial platform, to curate a selection of large-scale, sculptural artists projects.  This year’s Special Projects included Claudia Peña Salinas (CURRO), Michael Joo (LeRoy Neiman Center for Print Studies, Columbia University), Pep Duran(RocioSantaCruz) Felice Grodin (Perez Art Museum), Kelley Johnson(Upfor),Tomas Vu and Rirkrit Tiravanija (LeRoy Neiman Center for Print Studies, Columbia University), and AGUAS presenting three sculptural installations gathering artists from Mexico CityMiamiParisBrussels andBuenos Aires. Find more details here.

The 2018 edition’s programming was led by Director of Programming and Development Amanda Schmitt, and consisted of performances, events and special presentations including Liziana Cruz (ArtCenter/SouthFlorida, curated by Larry Ossei-Mensah), Ekaterina Juskowski (The Miami Girls Foundation), Sheldon Scott (CONNERSMITH.), and Jenny Larsson in collaboration with Lucinda LindermanMichelle Weinberg and Natalie Zlamalova (Girls’ Club).
