THE NEW BRAVE: DIESEL PREFALL 2022
“Being planet positive empowers us to be people positive, with no dishonesty and bullshit attached. This is a celebration of the Diesel values; optimistic, sexy, radical and rebellious.” Glenn Martens
Only The Brave: that’s the mantra that’s been driving Diesel’s development since 1978. Now, For Prefall 2022, Diesel redefines its definition of that bravery. This is a collection that is as messy, individual and beautiful as the person it is made for: the New Brave.
The New Brave is dirty of mind and clean of conscience, with a soul that’s sexy, active, unconventional and radical. Embracing every facet of our humanness, the New Brave is simultaneously committed to pleasure, progression, and provocation.
Both complex and straightforward, the wardrobe of the New Brave functions as a tool for self-expression and a portal to amplify identity.
The foundation for the season – as for every season going forward – is the Diesel essentials and Library. Sustainably manufactured and built to last, these are the pieces upon which to build your look over and over again.
The key codes of Diesel are reconfigured and renewed. Denim goes postmodern in fluid trompe l’oeil denim print shirt-dresses, skirts, bags, trousers and shirts, some of them in a mixed material melange with ‘real’ denim. Pure denim pieces are layered with extra texture through look-twice frayed hems at the pocket or waist, or flexibly linked inserts in washed red or white. This meta-denim mindset is extended to evening on printed palette pieces and mixed material jeans and jackets for men.
Diesel’s seminal signage is flipped and reconfigured on stencil printed responsibly sourced wool big logo knits and reversible puffers. The classic biscotti logo bites back on super shiny reversible puffers and is printed within linings of jerseys and knits, while the freshly-presented runway show Diesel D ring returns in cut-out tops, belts and shoes.
Beyond these pieces of brand language, Diesel’s dialect of nonconformist abandon is declared via a characterful retrofuture kaleidoscope that encompasses multiple fractals of subcultural cool. Post-military camouflage for love, not war is abstracted and deployed in multiple formations; knit, chiffon, baselayer, outerwear and even cut against lace trim, faux fur, and denim. Rave-rooted ensembles twist ironic amped up plays on the contemporary fetish for fashion monograms – with the Diesel megamonogram and layer psychedelic animalia in irregular nonconformist silhouettes. Fitted layered stretch dresses contour the body with raised piping and cut-out D ring panels, while featherlight faux angora trace synthetic pink meanders down a lemon sorbet base.
Snowboarder fleece pullovers and parkas for men feature mountainside branding while a key runway-inspired look sees a classic bleached Canadian tuxedo laser coated with a silver coating that is then finely peeled in places away from the garment.
Fresh steps in footwear include pumps and sandals that incorporate camouflage and digital print from the collection worn with them, the innovative Kiko sneaker-boot hybrid, and those D-logo slingbacks in fabrications that run from denim to satin. Bold accessories include newly evolved expressions of the 1DR in materials that include mirrored leather and nylon: along with reversible menswear belts, crossbody bags, and water bottle carriers all these accessories are crafted in certified responsible or recycled materials.
Diesel Prefall 2022 progressively resets the paradigm of the house in order to rise to the demands of The New Brave; responsible, irreverent, and irrepressible.
