MIAMI BEACH, FL – December 1, 2021 The Future Perfect unveils an extensive exhibition of cutting-edge design by 15 artists and designers for the 17th edition of the Design Miami/ international design fair in Miami Beach, FL. The eclectic presentation showcases the expansive possibilities of collectible design in the 21st century — if the 2019 presentation at the last fair was the gallery’s “greatest hits” album, 2021 is a dynamic “remix.” In addition to new work by long-standing gallery artists, the presentation marks the debut of designers new to The Future Perfect, and those showing at Design Miami/ for their first time.

Upon his debut on both the gallery’s roster and at Design Miami/, New Orleans-based designer Bradley Bowers has been awarded Design Miami/’s ‘Best Contemporary Work in Show’ for select works from his new Halo series. Best known for his avant-garde interior objects, Bowers’ new series presents three light sculptures of varying sizes. Sculpted in the round through a dance-like process of building up, folding, pleating, pinching, and tucking the paper, each lantern possesses a delicate duality of creased and smooth and light and shadow.

Bowers’ interest in folding and manipulating paper dates back to the artist’s childhood experimentation with origami. This focus informed his graduate studies at the Savannah College of Art and Design and remains a guiding light in his practice today.

Designers taking their work to the next level is a current that runs through pieces on view by Dutch designer Floris Wubben, ceramicist Bari Ziperstein, glass artist John Hogan, and artist and designer Karl Zahn. Monumental new works by Wubben, including a ceramic throne and side table made using his iconic extrusion process, are the designer’s most complex to date. Ziperstein’s first-ever presentation at Design Miami/ includes a five-part interlocking ceramic coffee table which, at 63 inches, is her largest work to date. Glass artist Hogan will be showing his first ever functional works: a collection of vessels. Zahn presents a new illuminated light sculpture, teasing an entirely new body of work ahead of a solo exhibition opening at Casa Perfect New York in early 2022.

Following the introduction of a major new body of work this fall at Casa Perfect New York, Eric Roinestad builds on his Arroyo Seco series with new Sun Vessels made especially for Design Miami/. Likewise, on the heels of unveiling his largest body of stoneworks to date this year, sculptor and designer Ian Collings continue his exploration of materiality with three new marble table sculptures. And concurrently with his exhibition Temperature’s Rising at Casa Perfect LA, Chris Wolston presents mirrors designed in a range of his signature styles — from his iconic woven rattan Nalgonas to collaged metal, produced with his long-time Medellin-based artisan collaborators.
