The Fifth Annual Catwalk for Charity Event

On Sunday, September 9th 2018 the 5th Annual Catwalk for Charity Event was held at Fontainebleau, Miami Beach with over 400 guests to benefit the children of Haiti. Proceeds go to support Prodev (Fondation Progrès et Développement) where they work to help the lives of children in need, providing a safe space for learning, development and a better future through education. The benefit also supports Breakfast with Santa’s Joy of Giving program, an annual toy and school supply distribution in Port Au Prince, Haiti for over 5000 Children. The kids are transported for a day of fun, food, music and celebration, that is both an inspirational and heartwarming experience for all involved.
Guests to Catwalk for Charity were welcomed by co-hosts Actress and Producer Garcelle Beauvauis, and 2 Time Emmy Award Winning Newscaster Calvin Hughes, with an appearance by Miss Peru, Clarisse Urbina, and a Special Performance by Singer Ayiiti Coles. Everyone enjoyed a Champagne Brunch, a Popup Boutique by Saks Fifth Avenue, a silent auction, and a fashion show hosted by Saks Fifth Avenue with specially designed angel costumes by Designer Juan Pablo.

The Catwalk for Charity “Agent of Change” Award was presented to four amazing women for their dedication and philanthropy by uplifting impoverished children and providing them with access to quality education in an inspiring way. This year’s honorees were: Suzanne Lerner, Claudia Coupet, Love Pun and Carol Phillip.

PRODEV was established in 1995 and has impacted over 55,000 children through their educational outreach and teacher training program. PRODEV’s mission is to improve the quality of education in Haiti and to ensure that all children are not only attending school, but also thriving and learning in a conducive environment. Using very low-cost and scalable methods, PRODEV works in collaboration with the government, local communities, parents, teachers, and volunteers to achieve this mission.
Haiti is home to 11 million people, with children making up 54% of that number. Sadly, 64% of boys and 57% of girls are unable to read or write. PRODEV was established with the belief that a quality education is a fundamental right of every child, and they work to provide access and resources to learning. PRODEV offers an extensive range of programs, including early intervention, community libraries and remedial learning, which reach thousands of children annually. Because of their mission, focus and multi-tiered interventions, nearly 100% of PRODEV students have passed the national exams, while the national average is only 50%.
