ARTISTIX AND LOVE x FASHION x ART OPENS NEW YORK POP UP
Urban contemporary brands ARTISTIX and Love x Fashion x Art recently opened a joint pop up here (275 Canal Street) in a street level warehouse space that could double as a parking garage (running through January 5, 2018). Featuring collaborative pieces by six noted New York artists and designers including ARTISTIX founder Greg Polisseni, Hektad, Zeehan Wazed, UnCasso, Stown, and Love x Fashion x Art, the showcase is a confluence of both brand’s shared sensibility of riffing off fashion, art and music to produce inimitable, modern style. Love x Fashion x Art’s Bernard Aidan, who curated the pop up, was joined by ARTISTIX creative director Andy Hilfiger in hosting the event. Guests at the launch, sponsored by Graffiti Wine, milled around the displays of jackets, sweaters, trousers, sneakers, bags and art work set against the multi-colored paint splattered environment.
ARTISTIX started in 2013 as a fashion translation of Mr. Polisseni’s art, first expressed as men’s wear and later expanding into the women’s arena. His abstract paintings have always exuded a rock and roll vibe that perfectly complements streetwear. Mr. Hilfiger came onboard last year to lend his own considerable fashion savvy into bringing a sharper focus to the collections, leavening the harder edges with infinitely more wearable classic overtones. Mr. Aidan on the other hand was co-founder of the Catherine Malandrino label, who struck out on his own with Love x Fashion x Art to infuse fashion with the immediate vitality of artistic expression.
