Strateas Carlucci Resort 18
Leading Australian menswear and womenswear designers, STRATEAS CARLUCCI unveiled their debut Resort 18 collection at the Theatre at Carriageworks at 6pm on Thursday 18th May.
Titled, TRANSIT, the Resort 18 collection was inspired by the Paris Metro, and the work of the late Chinese artist Ren Hang, whose work focused on freedom, rebellion and playfulness. STRATEAS CARLUCCI explored the rawness, the grit and beauty of the real world and the underground of the Paris Metro, in contrast to the cities canopy, to Hangs raw and provocative imagery of nudes, which are both confronting and beautiful, yet speak of purity.
The Resort collection included both menswear and womenswear pieces, unified by a focus on gender fluidity, a key concept of the brands DNA. Toying with masculine and feminine forms and fabrications, the collection consisted of strong silhouettes and sharp tailoring, with oversized shapes and voluminous bottoms. However street practicality kept the collection grounded via the bomber jackets, pierced hoodies and sweaters and knit categories.
The show was attended by leading press including Australian model Jordan Barratt, Christine Centenera Vogue Australia Fashion Director, Laura Brown Editor in Chief of US InStyle, Yasmin Sewell Fashion Director of Style.com, and influencers Margaret Zhang and Sarah Ellen. Key buyers from Moda Operandi, MatchesFashion, Selfridges, Lane Crawford, Browns, and local retailers David Jones, Parlour X and Harrolds, were also in attendance.
STRATEAS CARLUCCI launched their eponymous label in 2013 in Melbourne, and have been the recipient of multiple accolades since then. In 2014, STRATEAS CARLUCCI were awarded the GQ Designer of the Year award, the prestigious Tiffany & Co National Design Award for excellence in design, and were also announced the dual winner of the menswear and the womenswear prize for the International Woolmark Prize Australia Regional Finals.
In 2015, they were awarded the Prix De Marie Claire Award for Best Emerging Australian Designer, and also the Best Australian Emerging Designer at the Australian Laureate Awards. They became the first Australian Menswear designer to be invited by the Fédération Française de la Couture du Prêt-à-Porter des Couturiers et Créateurs de Mode to show their collection on the official Paris Fashion Week Calendar.
In June 2016, STRATEAS CARLUCCI, became the first Australian designer to be invited by the Camera Nazionale della Moda Italiana to show at Milan Fashion Week.
