Revtown Denim with Steve Battista
I recently had the pleasure of interviewing Steve Battista, former CMO of Under Armour and co-founder of Revtown Performance Denim who has been in the industry for over 25 years and for the past few years has been revolutionizing the Denim industry.
Steve is a 2-time recipient of Sports Business Journal’s 40 under 40 award and his creative and award winning marketing including “Protect This House,” “Click Clack,” And “I Will” campaigns, helped catapult Under Armour into the most recognizable sports apparel brands in the world. In 2018, Steve and two of his Under Armour teammates (Henry Stafford and Matt Maasdam) used their sportswear expertise to make this affordable performance denim that many have called “the most comfortable jeans they have ever worn.”
Can you share with us your background and the Revtown Performance Denim Brand?
I’ve been writing all my life and while at Johns Hopkins, working on a novel, I really started applying those skills to marketing and advertising. Joined Under Armour, in the first 20 or so employees and helped build the brand and we went from less than $2 million iu revenues to $5 Billion in the 18 years I was there.
What is the brand’s vision behind the Revtown Performance Denim Brand?
The vision is to reinvent the standard we all grew up on, but had let get to a point that was stiff, uncomfortable and diminishing quality. How did jeans get here? We have the technology of sports performance apparel. We know the denim and fashion world. Let’s combine them. Let’s make great looking, amazing fitting jeans that are just as comfortable as your sweatpants.
What do you think makes the Revtown Performance Denim Brand stand out? Can you share a story?
The story that we hear most often is people coming back to us saying I didn’t really think the jeans I had were that bad or that uncomfortable, then BAM! They put on a pair of Revtown jeans and they become instant believers.
Is the brand working on any exciting new projects now?
We’re always working on the next great thing. New colors, new styles and new collections will be rolling out every few weeks in 2021.
Where do you see the Revtown Performance Denim Brand going in the future?
Our focus is on denim, but long term our vision is set on reinventing more classics.
