Highlights from The 59th Annual Puerto Rican Day Parade in New York City, which took place on Sunday, June 12, 2016.
The mission of the National Puerto Rican Day Parade (NPRDP) is to create awareness and appreciation of Puerto Rican culture and history, as well as to highlight the vast community’s contributions to the global society. Under the theme Un Pueblo, Muchas Voces (One Nation, Many Voices), NPRDP celebrates the creativity and diversity of thought in Puerto Rico and across the diaspora.
New York City’s Fifth Avenue became a global stage, featuring music, dance, celebrity and family entertainment. Beginning at 44th Street and ending on 79th Street, the NPRDP spanned over 35 blocks, involves approximately 100,000 participants and hosted 1.5 million spectators.
Every year, the NPRDP hosts a series of public events leading up to the culmination of the Parade.
