PARKE & RONEN’s SPRING SUMMER 2019 COLLECTION IS CALIFORNIA DREAMING
At some point in the course of Parke & Ronen’s evolution, the brand found its surest footing by embracing “destination fashion”, which is to say the line focuses on men’s essentials for cheery travel jaunts. Because its core aesthetic is that of the strapping, gym-toned male, the brand is heavily dosed with an unapologetic homoeroticism while maintaining its wholesome appeal to men of all persuasions. Designers Ronen Jehezkel and Parke Lutter, however, are not interested in simply mining tropes. Each collection emerges from their cultural explorations of the season’s GPS inspiration – the latest being the fabled shores of Malibu, California with its motley inhabitants of celebrities and those devoted to sun, sand, and surf.
Here are snug T’s, shirts, light pullovers, and sheer tops in tones that evoke warm California sunsets and cool Pacific waves with smatterings of tropical floral prints and nautical horizontal stripes. There are escapist hints of 1980s LA glamour in some of the carefree silhouettes while many of the shorts are perfect for today’s ocean front skateboarders. Impossible to overlook are the signature Parke & Ronen swimsuits from skimpy to square cuts – enhanced, according to the designers by a “Hollywood hustler’s bravado” for confident preening at Muscle Beach or pool parties. The collection effortlessly captures that beach lifestyle of a never-ending summer with a liberal dash of stardust in the eyes of those Hollywood hopefuls.
