To assume the latest Michael Kors Collection is merely a call to escape would be an underestimation. Closer to the point is this buoyant and ingenious reminder that Manhattan itself is an island. The Spring Summer 2018 pieces draw an elegant uninterrupted line from day to evening in that half sprint New York gait from the apartment to work to dinner at an overpriced boîte to the next flight for Bora Bora.
Mr. Kors spoke during the press preview of New Yorkers’ need for comfort and agility while still demanding glamour and fine craftsmanship. At the showing, the diverse mix of models – including perennial dazzlers Carolyn Murphy, Kirsty Hume, Maggie Rizer, together with today’s headliners Ashley Graham and Bella Hadid – came down the runway to deliver on the collection promise.
There were sumptuous and versatile crêpe de chine or linen gauze dresses, skirts and sarongs, shirts, pants, jackets and trench-coats, menswear in relaxed, over sized tailoring, all layered with consummate styling. Soothing colors make for an even flawless transition from work to frolicking under the sun in sweet rosewater, wisteria purple, and cornflower or ocean blue, black and white, sand, and pearl with variations of palm prints. Even the accessories emphasized ease in unstructured, roomy, and travel-ready satchels, mariner duffels, woven leather totes, raffia shoulder sacks, along with knotted and luxurious croc sandals. Commuting never looked so chic.
