Munthe Spring Summer 2023 Collection during Copenhagen Fashion Week

Copenhagen, August 11th: The MUNTHE SS23 collection was shown at Sydhavn Recycling Center, during Copenhagen Fashion Week

Naja Munthe, Creative Director and founder of MUNTHE:

“When I design a new collection, I love to erase the line between creating casual, elegant, and graceful styles, and timeless, everlasting items. Why can’t they be both?

Art has always been an influence, a means of enriching MUNTHE’s design thinking.

Using art as a motivation in this way; is all about seeing the interest and the beauty in every detail, and depicting it in other creations. The Suprematist paintings of Ukraine-born Kazimir Malevich are one of the main influences in this Spring Summer 23 collection.

Time spent observing his work leads to an understanding of the visual language that Malevich developed, which can then be applied to fashion design. There are so many clues in his paintings to find atypical ways to organize shades, geometrical forms, lines, and especially his significant color palette, which has been an endless source for inspiration.”

COLLECTION INSPIRATION

The starting point of the Spring Summer 2023 collection is the Suprematism movement and the color-work of Kazimir Malevich. Around 1913, strongly influenced by avant-garde, a new art movement took place: Suprematism. It is paintings, which do not have a particular motive, instead, it is a composition of abstract colorful arrangements.
Emerald green, cornflower, powder blue, mushroom grey, and pure white added with a drop of vibrant orange and caramel show that the choice of the color palette is clearly a major milestone in this process.

Inspired by the drenched, wildflower laden fields of Scandinavia and recreated in prints, this is for all the flower-loving souls. And somehow, these styles, featuring forest-strawberry-plants and tiny green leaves on a light background, manage to be both adoring and edgy at the same time.

This Spring Summer 23 collection is also devoted to stripes, as a staple mainstay. A preferred print with a decade-long story as a substitute for “classic”. Breton, nautical, or pinstripes – there is a variation for everyone.

Art is at the core of MUNTHE, and collaborations with female artists is a reoccurrence each season. For the Spring Summer 2023 collection, MUNTHE has teamed up with British artist Rosa Roberts. The London based artist has hand-made a special art print, that is used for a selection of exclusive silk styles. The dark green and crisp white colors of Roberts art, play well with the collection on its whole.

A CONSCIOUS JOURNEY TOWARDS A MORE SUSTAINABLE FUTURE

It has always been core to the MUNTHE brand to be conscious and constantly reflect on how we are in the world. Being a fashion brand, by nature we are not in a sustainable industry but we believe that by using our brand as a powerful platform and by enacting the very change we want to see in others, we can initiate small changes that will accumulate into bigger ones over time.

We interpret sustainability holistically and believe that we are on a never-ending journey where we constantly need to explore and evaluate how to best invest in progress. We constantly need to take an honest look at all aspects of our production from choosing the best low-impact material to creating the best working conditions for our suppliers and employees.

64% of the collection meets the standard for MUNTHE MORE RESPONSIBLE, which means that the items that have the MUNTHE MORE RESPONSIBLE label consists of more than 50% or more responsible fabric.

Finally, it is a journey towards unleashing the power and potential of women – an issue that has always been very close to Naja Munthe’s heart.

In ultimo 2022 MUNTHE will publish our first responsibility report. Until then you can read more about our 5 sustainability commitments on MUNTHE.com. We invite everyone to be a part of our conscious journey.
