FlyNYON TAKES OFF FOR THE JOURNEY SHOW
Five years since it first took flight, FlyNYON has established itself as New York’s go-to helicopter charter by tourists, aerial photographers and cinematographers, and anyone else who wants a breathtaking vista of Manhattan from high above its steel and glass towers. Founded by aviation experts with a century’s worth of flight skills in the helicopter industry, the company has made viewing and photographing the city from the skies accessible through a cleverly designed crowdsource pricing. To highlight this breathtaking experience for professional photographers, it recently held “The Journey Show” that shuttled them via choppers over to its headquarters across the Hudson for a fashion runway presentation. Opening with models arriving via helicopter and marching into the FlyNYON facility, the show featured collections from Christian Lacroix Lingerie, Diamond by KVO Collections, Lola Loves Cargo, Layer 8, PopImpressKA, Henry Picado Men, and Este and Chlo.
Designed more as a teaser, the event did not feature the “open door” trip of an actual charter, which isn’t just for thrills but to afford an unimpeded sightline while the passenger is securely tethered for the ride. Each flight is piloted by an experienced crew with thousands of logged hours and conducted in rigorously maintained jet-engine helicopters equipped with redundancies in seat belts, harnesses, floatation devices, and/or dual engines. By now, even casual phone camera selfie and instagram addicts know how the quality of an image is susceptible to shifting perspective and light; so FlyNYON provides a seemingly endless variety of possible shots as one’s POV glides and tilts according to the flight. The 15-minute trip allows anyone to focus on iconic landmarks like the Chrysler or Empire State building, or views of downtown, uptown or the harbor. FlyNYON takes photography to new heights as well in Las Vegas, Miami, Los Angeles, and San Francisco. The Journey event was held with co sponsorship from the Mercedes Club, Madame Paulette, Red Bull, and Office Furniture Heaven.
