F*CK Art 2022: The Body and Its Absence

F*CK Art 2022

The Museum of Sex is pleased to announce F*CK Art 2022: The Body and Its Absence. Ten years after the debut of the first F*CK Art show, the Museum has reinstated this irreverent group exhibition with a new, biennale-inspired format that presents a survey of subversive contemporary artwork probing sex and sexuality in our current moment. The 2022 edition of F*CK Art features eighteen living artists, a majority of whom identify as gender variant or queer, whose work explores nuanced evocations of the erotic body. The Museum will host an opening reception on the evening of Thursday, June 9th and the exhibition will open to the public on Friday June 10th, 2022.

As a malleable medium, the body proclaims much by its appearance as well as its nonappearance. Through varying examinations and meditations, this exhibition will explore the body’s role in subjectively registering intimacy, fantasy, and longing. Intervening in a long tradition of the nude body’s association with eroticism, artists today are using the body as a charged and fluid meaning-making agent. The artists included in F*CK ART work across mediums such as performance, sculpture, film, photography, ceramics, painting, drawing, fiber arts, and new media where they explore our contemporary contours of desire and arousal.

“With F*CK ART 2022, we wanted to create a space for artists to present new and evocative artwork that pushes the boundaries of how we represent and discuss sex, in all its complexity,” says co-curator Eve Arballo. “The biennale format allowed us to dig deep into our theme and present a survey of work that reflects the diverse and nuanced conversations we had with the artists. As the Museum of Sex, we are able to provide a space for artwork to be shown free from censorship or boundaries. We are excited to continue to iterate upon this exhibition format in the years to come as our societal understanding of sex and sexuality shifts and changes.”
