CULT of Individuality X HVMAN Spring Summer 2022 Collection
Debuts A More Upscale Version of Streetwear
For nearly 13 years, CULT has been leading the streetwear market and innovating on its denim technology. This time, the cult-favorite brand is here to support the vision of self-expressionism while delivering authentic craftsmanship. With a denim-focused collection, the brand has stepped out of its comfort zone and added a few feminine pieces for the bold wearer.
“Our Spring 2022 collection is like every collection. It was inspired by music & what our team is feeling at the moment. We are very tuned into the mood on the street & how music plays a part of that mood. Sometimes it’s rock, sometimes it’s more rap or more classic…but always music,” added CULT’s designer Ron Poisson.
As for music setting the pace for their stitches, CULT launched a more upscale version of their collection dubbed HVMAN. “Our collection always incorporates details from the utilitarian workwear commonly found in Japanese & American workplaces. Uniforms offer so many touchpoints of practicality & authentic function,” added Poisson.
While most fans of CULT seem like they are part of an underground meetup, Poison’s designs are for the keen eye that understands cultural movement and music. Sentiments of anarchy might rise with every look, but Poisson does what he feels like designing. It’s not punk, it’s not a rebellious movement, it’s about not giving a “$&*# about what is going on in the traditional fashion marketplace.”
Ron Poisson trusts in denim, always adding his signature elements to it with embroidery, leather piping, patches, and complicated finishes. This season his approach to denim goes beyond classic finishes, adding novelty pieces and leather jackets in collaboration with iconic musicians Pantera, Motley Crüe, and Public Enemy that stand out as the seasonal signature.
In a post-COVID era where fashion seems very utilitarian, Poisson is here to make a statement of individuality and support the industry through expressive fabrics. “In that respect, we give an authentic nod to “punk” with our every garment. In today’s politically charged, post-pandemic world, self-expression is the thing people have been forced to rely upon to maintain a sense of “belonging”, since group reinforcement hasn’t been possible for so many months.”
