Alexandra Moura’s runway show for her Fall/Winter collection was the very last runway of Milan Fashion Week 2019 and the excitement around it was as strong as any other during the 7 days of events. People were turned away in droves as the venue was packed beyond capacity to see this Portuguese Designer’s newest collection. Beastiary pays tribute to the famous ceramist from Northern Portugal, Rosa Ramalho, a rural artisan with a sense of aesthetics and intelligence far ahead of her time. The collection based on an imaginary world full of beings conjured up by Ramalho.

The contrast between her visionary art and simple country life is a key element to the collection’s development. Work uniforms from the countryside intertwine with the oversize fit of today’s sportswear, thereby establishing a bridge between classic & contemporary, through it’s masterful melding of the rural & the urban.

Fantasy beings, monsters, and beasts gave life to the details, mix of overlapping materials, and hand painted accents reinterpreting Rosa’s beastiary, as the two share a simple creative approach to their work. Both transmit their own point of view and personal characteristics giving the collection an incredibly personal and authentic reality.

Alexandra Moura was born in Lisbon is a graduate of IADE and has won numerous awards for her designs including the distinguished Premio Mulheres da Cultura in 2015 and Golden Globe for Best Fashion Designer in Portugal in 2018. She has been presenting Men’s and Women’s collections since 2002 and has been showing regularly in London and Paris since 2015.
