The makers of James Jeans have just launched the first collection of its new label called Alkhemist featuring Hemp Incorporated™ denim for women. This new brand utilizes the company’s manufacturing capabilities honed after fifteen years in the business and continuing advancements in technology. The line has taken years to research and develop prior to the initial collection. The in-house grown hemp is blended into the denim fibers and processed using a special resin that results in an ideal combination of comfort and sustainability. The most challenging aspect was finding the right amounts of hemp and other fibers that could result in the desired denim. But even after perfecting the process, the collection still had to be ensured in terms of the brand’s standards of style, fit, and durability.
The initial Alkhemist collection includes jeans, cargo pants, shorts and denim jackets. Key to creating the brand is the commitment to sustainability. Hemp uses 82% less water and about fifty percent less of a carbon footprint than cotton (even though hemp is ten times stronger). The manufacturing of Alkhemist reduces the need for crop rotation and pesticide usage and being thrice more efficient in producing fiber than cotton on the same amount of land. And for consumers, it has anti-odor and anti-bacterial properties and resists fading and abrasions even after repeated washing. The brand also announced they are already working on introducing a men’s denim collection. The debut collection is available from $160 to $320 at Alkhemist LA
